Elizabeth is a Harvard educated, international energy lawyer with a passion for optimizing natural resources in the developing world. Stints as a Member of Parliament and then a diplomat for Trinidad and Tobago dot her varied and illustrious 25 year legal and government career.  She owns an energy legal and government relations business focused on advising on downstream oil and gas projects in developing countries.

Her other passion is her family’s heritage which is not far removed from the oil industry; the modern steelpan  developed out of the 55 gallon oil barrel available from the oil industry in  Trinidad.

Elizabeth is a second generation of the Mannette family, the premier name linked to the invention of the musical steelpan/steel drums of the Caribbean. The family patriarch,  Ellie Mannette (1927 -2018), is known as the Father of the Modern Steelpan, having spent almost 75 years  making the world’s best instruments, prized by top bands, performers and artistes.

Elizabeth has advised nonprofit arts groups of community steelbands in New York and Trinidad, managed a youth band playing rock music on steel drums, and produced a music CD for her what started as a family band in 1940, Invaders Steel Orchestra in Trinidad.  In 2000,  pre-iTunes, Spotify and Pandora, she built  the first website with 24/7 streaming steel drum music.

Bringing her passion into her daily life inspired Elizabeth in 2005 to design a line of elegant, stylish jewelry and fashion accessories.  Under the name “Liz Mannette”  the collection has built a loyal following, particularly with corporate gift buyers. Recipients include world leaders, UN dignitaries, business executives and several A- list celebrities.  Designs have now expanded beyond jewelry and gifts with the launch of an entertainment division with live events, media, film and games.

Elizabeth is also a writer, published author and speaker. She recently launched a second edition of her first book and is looking forward to publishing two other manuscripts in 2020.
